Fiesta del cacharro y de la castaña

The “Fiesta del cacharro y de la castaña” is a traditional festival for the holy Andrés which takes place in Puerto de la Cruz. Annually on every 29th of November many local people meet at “Plaza del Charco” when the night is falling down to Puerto. Everybody tries to make as much noise as possible by pulling a rope with pots and other old objects. At “Plaza del Charco” there are a lot of food stands where you can taste the endemic chestnut and other local dishes like “cherne” (jewfish), “gofio amasado” (local dough) and of course vine from Tenerife. La "Fiesta del cacharro y de la castaña" es una fiesta tradicional por San Andrés, que tiene lugar en Puerto de la Cruz.

 

Christmas Lottery
In Spain the pre-christmas period is all about the christmas lottery “Sorteo de Navidad”. Since more than 200 years everybody in Spain is looking forward to the big lottery win “El Gordo” at every 22nd of December. The first prize is about 3 million euro. But despite the big chance a single lottery ticket costs about 200 euro. Due to this huge prize, it’t usual to buy one thenth of the lottery ticket, the so called “Decimos”. You can buy the ticket in every bar, cafê, restaurant or even in boutiques. The majority of lottery tickets are selled in a small catholic city named “Sort”. The meaning of the word “Sort” translated into english is good luck. Therefore many tourists and spanish people as well want to buy their ticket in “Sort”.
The lottery win is a very traditional ceremonial act where children from the “San Ildefonso” school in Madrid singing the lucky numbers. The whole ceremony takes about 3 houres and is transmitted live to the TV. The reason for this euphoria of the “El Gordo” is that 70 % of their earnings are distributet afterwards.

Fly Over


Since already 6 years you can discover the ocean of coast Adeje guarded by a professional scuba dive instructor. The Fly Over is a project of “Project aware from PADI” and “Ocèano Sostenible” to recover the coastal marine ecosystem of “Puertito de Adeje”. This project should draw awareness for tourists and inhabitants the impact on the environmen due to human influence. Today there isn’t hardly any evidence from the sea urgin plague, which was a huge problem many years before. Nowadays it’s possible to swim, see and interact with a lot of different animals like sea horses, turtles or crabs. Due to the scuba diving instructors there is no need to have an own license for diving; take a guided tour and you will experience the nature of Teneife.

 

Museo Arqueológico Municipal

In 1991 the Museo Arqueológico Municipal opened in “Calle el Lomo”, and is one of the most cultural centres in the north of Tenerife.
It is located in a large, traditional Canary house from the XIXth Century; close to the harbour area. The building was acquired and restored by the Town Council in 1981. The Museums origins go back to the year of the creation of the Archaeological Museum of the Canary Institute of Hispanic Studies in 1953.
Its collections include aboriginal pots and other utensils of considerable value, mummified guanche remains, butterfly collections, maps of the XVIIth Century, weapons exhibition, samples of timber from the Canary forests and a lot more. Most of the collections were privately donated. The present exhibition recreates the habitat and customs of the Island’s native inhabitants. The Guatimac, a small, clay, guanche idol is one of the treasures at the Museo Arqueologico Municipal.

Winter Music Festival

On the 7th of December a big Music Festival takes place in La Laguna. The famous singer and ex-member of “The Black eyed Peas” Taboo is the main act of this event. But even the other singer are not unknown artists: Juan Magán, who already worked together with famous artists like: Shakira, Juanes, Nelly Furtado, Enrique Iglesias, Paulina Rubio, and many others. Right now he is in the charts with “Bailando Por Ahi”. Other artists of the Winter Music Festival are: Ales Gaudino, Roachman, Jonay Amador, Dario, Leon, Jacobo Padilla, Hector Couto, Josepo.

The concert will be at the “Plaza del Cristo” in La Laguna and starts at 5 pm.
