Our language school is in Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands. The archipelago is one of the most attractive and beautiful regions in Europe, only 115 kms off the African coast. There are seven main islands: Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and a few smaller ones. Altogether the island’s total a population of about 1,6 million inhabitants, most of them are living on the two largest islands: Tenerife and Gran Canaria. The Canaries are called the land of eternal spring. The climate is mild and sunny and it is the ideal place for open air leisure activities, either in the water or in the countryside. Hiking is very popular in the mountains. The unique climate has developed a varied indigenous flora with many endemic species. There are four National Parks on the Canary Islands: Timanfaya (Lanzarote), Caldera de Taburiente (La Palma), Garajonay (La Gomera), Las Cañadas del Teide (Tenerife) and numerous nature reserves. The landscape of the islands varies due to their volcanic origins. Black sand is found only on the islands of Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro. The other islands have golden sands and Las Palomas beach in Gran Canaria is famous for its dunes.
