Due to their local traditions and Spanish and Latin-American influences the Canary Islands have a delightful, rich and diverse culture of their own. In nearly every town in Tenerife there are active folklore groups who keep the old traditions alive. Both young and old take part and entertain the public with their music and lively traditional dances during the many fiestas throughout the year. Apart from folklore there are several festivals during the summer with all kinds of modern music: Hip Hop, House, Rock, Pop and Reggae. Recent stars to visit our shores include, Shakira, Juanes, Elton John and Rod Stewart. Classical music fans are not forgotten either. In the splendid new auditorium in Santa Cruz you can enjoy the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife as well as many visiting orchestras, opera and dance companies and soloist of international standing. It also attracts modern musicians, choirs and musical shows. But it is not only music that thrills the Tinerfeños and visitors, there are several theatres and even an annual three day theatre-art street festival (Mueca) organized in Puerto de la Cruz.
