FU Tenerife Spanish Language School: spanish language courses and hotel internships on Tenerife

FAQ

Why should I apply for a work placement on the Canary Islands?
The Canary Islands are one of the most popular holiday destinations and are located in the Atlantic Ocean to the west of the African coast, on the same latitude as Florida, Southern Morocco or Egypt, between the 27th and 28th line of northern latitude. The Canary Islands belong to Spain, and therefore form part of the European Union. Favourable temperatures, usually 20 to 28 degrees, as well as an average of 300 days of sun are reasons why you call the Canary Islands also “Islands of the eternal spring”. But there is more to see than only sun and beaches. Cultural Events, the second largest carnival of the world, fiestas and uncountable sports activities – these are just a few keywords of the Canaries.

Can I begin the work placement on any date I like?
Usually internships in enterprises start on the beginning of a month. With hotel internships the starting date can be arranged more flexibly. When do I have to apply at the latest? You should apply as soon as possible. However, at least 6 to 8 weeks in advance of the internship. After receiving your complete application we usually arrange an internship within 4 to 6 weeks. Of course, we will do our best to find an internship for you also on short notice. Please note that there are more applications than internships. That means: The earlier you apply the more chances you have to get a vacancy.

Which requirements do I have to fulfil?
- minimum age of 18 years
- EU citizenship
- Conclusion of a health, accident and third party liability insurance

Which knowledge of Spanish is required?
Often, companies request an intermediate level of Spanish. However, we also have vacancies, in which a lower level of Spanish is sufficient, if the language course of the Formación FU has been attended.

How long is the internship?
Usually the duration of an internship is between 12 and 26 weeks. However, Canary companies prefer longer terms as the trainee takes longer to become acquainted with his tasks. If requested, we will try to find a vacancy for 6 weeks. In general, the more flexible you are, the more chances you have.
How should I apply?

Do I have to come to Tenerife for an interview?
No, this is not required. We will contact you via phone to get an impression of yourself and your language knowledge. Our partners trust our competence in choosing the right applicant.

Is it a paid internship?
Yes, all our partner companies will pay at least 300 € per month. Except the hotels will pay a smaller allowance or sometimes nothing, because they always provide free accommodation and board for the interns during their whole internship.

How will I find an accommodation?
We will arrange an accommodation for you. Trainees in hotels will stay in the hotel itself for free. For trainees of other companies, we can arrange a single room in a shared apartment with other students for only € 300 per month.

How can I get to Tenerife cheaply?
Unfortunately, flights to Tenerife have become a little more expensive. Nevertheless, there are some airlines which offer cheap flights once in a while.

Is there anybody who I can contact in case I have problems during my internship?
Of course, we are confident that you will enjoy your internship on the Canary Islands. Most of the time the first week is hard, especially if this is your first time abroad. You should give yourself some time to become acquainted with all the new things. Nevertheless, in case of serious problems, you can contact us at any time and we will find a solution. Once again: We do not only arrange your internship, we also organise it! We will be there for you during your stay - in emergency cases even 24/h!
